US Senator Supports Georgian Protests
Leaders of the Strong Georgia coalition, Mamuka Khazaradze, Badri Japaridze, and Grigol Gegelia, are in the US for a visit. While there, they met with Senator Roger Vickers.
Mamuka Khazaradze said that Senator Vickers and other US officials support the protests taking place in Georgia. He believes this means the US will put pressure on the Georgian government to hold new elections and release political prisoners.
The Strong Georgia coalition wants new elections and for politicians who have been imprisoned for their views to be freed. They think the US will help them achieve these goals by putting pressure on the Georgian government.
Badri Japaridze said that he believes the support from Senator Vickers shows that the US is backing the people of Georgia, no matter which party they belong to.
Grigol Gegelia said that Strong Georgia’s meetings in the US are not over yet. They will also be talking with officials at the Department of State.
