**NATO Takes Over Aid Coordination for Ukraine**
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has taken over some responsibilities from the US in coordinating aid for Ukraine. This change was made with Washington’s consent, ensuring a stable support system going forward.
According to NATO Military Committee Chief Admiral Rob Bauer, this transfer of responsibility does not affect the inauguration of new US President Donald Trump on January 20. Trump has promised to push for a peace settlement in the Russia-Ukraine war after taking office.
This change was made because some partners in the pro-Kyiv coalition wanted to ensure stable security assistance for Ukraine if the US were to withdraw its involvement. The framework for this transfer was established at the NATO Washington Summit in July 2022 and was included in the final communique.
The changes aim to create a stable mechanism to continue supporting Ukraine, regardless of political changes. Admiral Bauer said that this is reassuring for Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi because the war does not change based on what happens in the White House.
**Stable Support Mechanism**
NATO is taking over the responsibility from the US in coordinating aid for Ukraine. This includes the Security Assistance Group – Ukraine and the International Donor Coordination Center, which were groups of nations helping Ukraine. The US has agreed to transfer this responsibility to NATO.
