Public Defender Levan Ioseliani Denies Accusations
The Public Defender of Georgia, Levan Ioseliani, has spoken out against accusations that he is not doing enough to stop police mistreatment of protesters. He says the claims are false.
Ioseliani posted on Facebook to respond to the allegations. He shared links to statements he made during protests to show that the accusations are baseless.
He said a small group of people held a protest in front of his office and spread false information about him. They accused him of ignoring possible cases of police mistreatment of protesters.
Ioseliani pointed out that he cannot evaluate allegations of election fraud because he is not a monitoring organization. He trusts the conclusions of international groups like OSCE/ODIHR over local ones.
He also addressed claims that 100,000 people had their IDs confiscated during the elections. Ioseliani said there was no evidence to support this claim and suggested that protest organizers should focus on convincing others of their truth rather than trying to silence him.
Regarding electoral rights violations, Ioseliani said he documented every instance and took legal measures in 110 potential cases.
He also defended his right to appear on television platforms of his choice. Ioseliani said the Public Defender’s Office will not be influenced by a few activists who use hate speech.
**P.S.** Ioseliani asked people to stop tagging and pressuring staff at the Public Defender’s Office, saying they are not popular there.
