**German Embassy Warns of Threat to Democracy in Georgia**
The German Embassy in Georgia has spoken out against the persecution of people who defend their rights. They say this undermines democracy, the judiciary, and the rule of law.
The embassy is closely watching trials of citizens arrested during protests. Last week, they attended trials at Tbilisi City Court alongside European, American, and British partners. The detainees are accused of disobeying police orders, but many also suffered excessive police violence during the protests.
According to the embassy, “the deliberate persecution of people who defend their fundamental rights undermines democracy, judicial system, and principles of the rule of law in Georgia.”
