**US Envoy Speaks Out on Serbia Protests**
Richard Grenell, a special envoy for the US president, has shared his thoughts on the student protests in Serbia. In a video posted on X, he commented on the demonstrations and expressed support for peaceful protests.
Grenell wrote: “It’s always important to raise your voice and be heard. But everyone must condemn violence and stick to peaceful demonstrations.” He also emphasized the importance of respecting the democratic process and not supporting those who undermine the rule of law or take over government buildings by force.
This is the first reaction from the US administration under President Trump regarding the protests in Serbia. The protests have been ongoing for weeks, following a tragic incident where 15 people died after a part of the roof collapsed at a railway station in Novi Sad.
The students blocking faculties are demanding five things to be met, but none of these demands include changing the government. According to Voice of America, this suggests that the protesters want change within the existing system rather than overthrowing it entirely.
Grenell’s comments come after his appointment as special mission envoy by President Trump in his second term. Previously, he served as a special presidential envoy for peace negotiations between Serbia and Kosovo.
