Finland’s Foreign Minister Speaks Out on Georgia Situation
Finland’s Foreign Minister, Elina Valtonen, has spoken out against the violence in Georgia. She said that it is unacceptable for peaceful demonstrators to be targeted.
Valtonen made her comments before a meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels. She emphasized that true democracy requires free and fair elections, where the will of the people is respected.
The OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) also weighed in on the situation. Last year, they published a report on Georgia’s elections and offered recommendations for holding new ones.
Valtonen spoke from her position as Chair of the OSCE. She said that violence against peaceful protesters is not acceptable in any society. She also emphasized the importance of holding elections where the true will of the people is taken into account.
