**Election Legitimacy in Question, Says PACE Delegation Head**
The head of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) delegation to Georgia, Iulian Bulai, expressed concerns about the country’s democratic process. He spoke at the winter session of PACE in Strasbourg.
Bulai stated that the situation in Georgia after the parliamentary elections was “alarming”. He said the country was moving towards autocracy and that things had not improved since the election. Bulai made two calls to action: he urged the release of 53 political prisoners, including a journalist who has been on a hunger strike for 16 days.
Bulai also questioned the legitimacy of the parliamentary elections held in Georgia. He suggested that new elections be held so that the government and parliament can gain more legitimacy. The PACE delegation head made these comments while members from both the opposition and the ruling party were present at the session.
