**Federal Judge Blocks Trump’s Funding Freeze**
A US judge has temporarily stopped the Trump administration from freezing up to $3 billion in funding for various federal aid programs. The decision was made by US District Judge Loren AliKhan on January 28.
The Trump administration had planned to freeze funding for programs such as preschools, medical research facilities, and disaster relief organizations. However, Judge AliKhan issued an administrative stay, delaying the funding freeze until Monday.
The decision came after a virtual court hearing in which the Department of Justice and multiple plaintiffs presented arguments. One lawsuit was filed by activist group Democracy Forward, while another case was brought by attorneys general from 22 states and Washington D.C.
**Ukraine Aid Affected**
Trump’s administration has already halted international aid, including non-military assistance to Ukraine. This move has caused concern among Ukrainian NGOs that rely on US support. Ukraine is currently the top recipient of US development assistance, with official data showing it continues to face Russia’s war.
The White House and State Department stated that the pause in funding is necessary to review programs and ensure they align with President Trump’s priorities.
