Sanctions for Georgian Delegation Members
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will impose sanctions on members of Ivanishvili‘s delegation. This means they can no longer be part of committees or participate in discussions.
According to Tina Bokuchava, chairperson of “Unity National Movement”, the sanctions are a result of the adoption of a resolution by the Monitoring Committee. The committee continues the policy of imposing sanctions on Ivanishvili’s regime.
The sanctions will only allow members of Ivanishvili’s delegation to formally keep their mandate until April. This is so new elections can be scheduled in the country.
Tina Bokuchava said this is a significant achievement for Georgian democracy and society. She believes it shows international recognition of the problems with Ivanishvili’s regime. The ultimate goal is to release political prisoners, punish those who have done wrong, and hold free and fair parliamentary elections.
