**NATO to Send $41.6 Billion in Security Assistance to Ukraine**
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is on track to meet its promise to send around $41.6 billion (40 billion euros) in security assistance to Ukraine by the end of the year. This was announced by NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska on January 29.
**Ukraine’s Reform Efforts and Defense**
NATO officials met with Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Olha Stefanishyna during a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council in Brussels. They discussed Ukraine’s ongoing reform efforts, defense, and current situation on the front lines. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also met with Stefanishyna to discuss continued support for Ukraine’s defense.
**Ukraine Prioritizes Future NATO Membership**
Ukraine continues to prioritize its future membership in NATO as a security guarantee against Russian aggression. The alliance has already started taking over certain responsibilities once handled by the US, and Rutte has pledged to maintain NATO’s support for Kyiv and increase Europe’s share of the spending.
**Russia Suffers Heavy Losses**
Russian forces are reportedly suffering around 1500-1750 casualties daily on the battlefield despite replenishing their combat strength. Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said “peace through strength” must guide the response to Russian aggression.
**US Funding Freeze and Ukraine’s Priorities**
A US funding freeze could last for three to six months, according to the Ukrainian parliament’s humanitarian and information policy committee. Ukraine has prioritized its future NATO membership and continues to receive support from other allies, including Poland.
