Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze responded to criticism from opposition members about the planned EMAAR investment project.
The project, led by the UAE-based EMAAR group, is set to become the largest investment in Georgia’s history. It will involve building residential spaces and infrastructure like schools, hotels, medical facilities, and sports centers over the next five years.
Kobakhidze said that opposition members who were skeptical about a similar project in Serbia are now buying apartments in those buildings. He believes this will also happen in Georgia.
The Prime Minister accused radical opposition groups of trying to create obstacles to the country’s development. He said they have the same patrons and are motivated by a desire for nihilism.
Kobakhidze stated, “Radical opposition must face reality.” He added that their Arab partners laugh at their concerns, recalling how similar projects were successfully completed in Serbia despite initial opposition.
The EMAAR project is expected to represent 18% of Georgia’s economy. Kobakhidze expressed gratitude for the investment and praised the group’s reputation for completing projects on time and with high quality.
