**GYLA Demands Action Against Top Official**
The Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) has written to the General Prosecutor’s Office in Georgia. They want the office to start a criminal case against Zviad Kharazishvili, who is in charge of the Special State Protection Service.
GYLA says that footage shows Kharazishvili was directly involved in mistreating a detainee. He was caught on camera taking part in this abuse along with law enforcement officers.
**Police Actions Criticized**
The statement from GYLA also criticizes the police for using excessive force against peaceful protesters. They say that even though traffic was only briefly delayed, it’s not enough reason to use such strong measures against them. The protest did cause some disruption on a major highway.
GYLA is worried about the way police are treating activists and protesters. They point out that there have been reports of verbal abuse directed at women during these protests. This is especially concerning given the high levels of violence against women in Georgia.
**Calls for Investigation**
The organization wants an immediate investigation into all incidents involving the mistreatment of activists. They also want the General Prosecutor, Giorgi Gabitashvili, to take charge of this investigation and keep the public informed about its progress.
GYLA is demanding that Kharazishvili face criminal charges and have his authority suspended. This is because the footage clearly shows him being involved in violence against a detainee. They also want accountability for repeated crimes committed by staff at the Special Assignments Department during recent protests.
