Bidzina Ivanishvili to Testify in Court Case Remotely
On February 5, the founder of the Georgian Dream party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, will testify in court. He is a victim in this case, and the accused is Giorgi Bachiashvili, who manages the Co-Investment Fund.
Today’s hearing started with the prosecutor asking that Ivanishvili be questioned remotely. They cited his safety as one of the reasons for this request. However, the defense team says this request is not justified.
Ivanishvili’s lawyer, Levan Makharashvili, asked the prosecutor to specify where Ivanishvili should be questioned from. The prosecutor replied that it would be at Sololaki, according to the investigation protocol.
The prosecution gave two reasons for wanting Ivanishvili to testify remotely: his age and the long time needed for the hearing. They also mentioned concerns about Ivanishvili’s safety.
However, Makharashvili disagrees with these reasons. He says that Ivanishvili participated in a 5-hour questioning session during the investigation stage without taking a break. The lawyer also believes that Ivanishvili’s age is not an issue and that his safety would be protected if he were to testify in person.
