**Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Outlines Key Priorities**
On February 3, Ukraine’s commander-in-chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, announced the country’s key priorities in its ongoing war against Russia. These include holding defensive lines, preventing Russian advances, and enhancing the use of unmanned systems.
Syrskyi emphasized the importance of protecting Ukrainian troops and civilians from harm. “We continue effectively destroying Russia’s military facilities to reduce its strike potential,” he said on social media.
**Ukraine Holds Positions in Kursk Oblast**
In August 2024, Ukraine launched a cross-border incursion into Russia’s Kursk Oblast. Since then, Ukrainian forces have been holding positions on Russian territory, reportedly seizing around 1,300 square kilometers (500 square miles). Although they have lost roughly half of the captured area, fighting continues as Kyiv seeks to leverage its presence in Kursk Oblast in potential negotiations.
**Long-Range Drone Strikes Hit Russian Oil Facilities**
In recent weeks, Ukraine has intensified its long-range drone strikes on Russian oil facilities. The goal is to disrupt fuel supplies to the Russian military and weaken Moscow‘s energy export revenues. Oil profits remain a key source of funding for Russia’s war effort.
**Syrskyi Highlights Importance of Military Training and Recruitment**
Commander-in-Chief Syrskyi also stressed the need to strengthen military training and improve recruitment and psychological support for troops. He reported progress in reforming the Armed Forces’ organizational structure, including a shift to a corps-based system.
