**Media Restrictions in Georgia?**
The government of Georgia is planning to make changes to the “Media Law”. This has some people talking about restrictions on freedom of the press. However, the Prime Minister says that this is necessary.
According to Irakli Kobakhidze, media freedom in the UK is restricted, and Georgia should follow a similar model. He believes that certain media outlets are causing problems by spreading lies and inciting hatred.
**A Problem in Need of a Solution**
Kobakhidze says that everyone knows there’s a problem with the way some media outlets work. The OSCE/ODIHR has mentioned this issue in their conclusions. He thinks that Georgia should take steps to fix this problem, just like any country would when it finds out about a serious disease.
The Prime Minister also suggested that those who oppose these changes might have an ulterior motive. He believes that regulating the media would be good for society as a whole.
**Changes on the Way**
Mamuka Mdinaradze, chairman of the “Georgian Dream” faction, has stated that the government will soon initiate the new “Media Law”. This law is supposed to establish standards for journalistic ethics and objectivity in the media. It will also define mechanisms for monitoring and protecting these standards.
