**Parliament to Create New Rules Against Foreign Interference**
The Speaker of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, has promised that the government will do its job and protect democracy from outside influence. He made this promise on his Facebook page.
Papuashvili attached a photo to his post showing a sign being taken down from a building in Washington D.C. The photo had the caption “Farewell to Arms.”
**A Shift Away From Foreign Aid**
Papuashvili wrote that after recent revelations, many countries are now suspected of misusing foreign aid. He said that diplomacy should be used instead, which means finding common interests with other countries.
For a long time, foreign aid was used as a way for powerful countries to influence others and impose their own ideas on them. This is not how it should be, Papuashvili said. Diplomacy is about working together and finding what’s good for both sides.
**A New Approach**
Papuashvili noted that the Secretary of State in the United States has recently stated that foreign policy should focus on finding common interests, rather than causing conflict. This is a positive change from the old way of doing things.
Georgia will also take steps to protect its democracy against outside influence. The Parliament will create new laws to ensure this happens.
