**Georgian PM Rejects Call to Postpone Elections**
The Georgian government will not postpone this year’s local elections. This was stated by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in the United Arab Emirates.
He was asked about a statement from the Congress of the Council of Europe, which called on the government to delay the local elections. The PM replied that everyone must respect the country’s constitution.
Kobakhidze compared this situation to Ukraine, where elections are not being held despite expired terms for public officials. He said that Georgia cannot allow such a thing to happen.
“The constitution and legislation must be respected by all,” Kobakhidze noted.
**Background**
