Mzia Amaglobeli’s Lawyers Speak Out Against Her Detention
Lawyers for Mzia Amaglobeli are asking a court to release her from detention. They made this announcement at a press conference in Tbilisi.
According to the lawyers, the Prosecutor’s Office has no right to prosecute Mzia Amaglobeli. They say that the charges against her are unfair and that her detention is also unjustified.
“We will ask the court tomorrow to cancel Mzia Amaglobeli’s detention order,” said Nona Kurdovanidze, head of the Young Lawyers Association. “The Prosecutor’s Office has broken the law by prosecuting Mzia Amaglobeli. Her case meets all the criteria for a politically motivated prosecution.”
Mtsariashvili, another lawyer representing Mzia Amaglobeli, also spoke out against her detention. She said that Mzia Amaglobeli is being treated unfairly and that there are no legal grounds for her continued imprisonment.
“We demand that the court release Mzia Amaglobeli from prison,” said Mtsariashvili. “We also want the Prosecutor’s Office to drop its case against her.”
The lawyers are asking the authorities to take several steps, including releasing Mzia Amaglobeli from detention and dropping the charges against her.
