**German MP Warns Against Russian Influence**
The Armenian Parliament has approved a bill to start the process of joining the European Union. This move is seen as a historic step towards closer ties with Europe.
Reacting to this development, Michael Roth, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Bundestag, expressed his support for Armenia’s bid to join the EU. However, he also sounded a warning about Russian influence in the region.
“We must not surrender Georgia and Armenia to Russian imperialism,” said Roth in a statement. He congratulated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on this “huge step” towards joining the European Union.
Roth urged the EU to go beyond just praising Armenia’s decision, and instead actively support the country’s bid to join the bloc. His comments highlight concerns about Russia’s growing influence in the region.
