Russian Drones Crash in Moldova During Attack on Ukraine
Moldovan airspace was violated by several Russian drones overnight on Feb. 13, according to a report from Moldovan media outlet NewsMaker. At least one of the drones exploded and another crashed on the country’s territory.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu said, “Russian drones and bombs are falling and exploding in our villages. And we must recognize that we cannot defend ourselves against them.”
One drone crashed into a field near the village of Chumai in Taraclia district, while another exploded between the town of Ceadir-Lunga and the village of Valea Perjei.
Fragments found in Ceadir-Lunga confirmed that the drone was of Russian origin. The border police reported no injuries, but authorities have isolated the area for further investigation.
Moldova has been a frequent victim of Russian drones since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Missiles have also violated Moldovan airspace, prompting strong condemnation from Chisinau.
Russian attacks on multiple Ukrainian regions killed at least one civilian and injured 20 over the past day, regional authorities reported on Feb. 10.
European nations fear they will be left to shoulder the costs of post-war security and reconstruction in Ukraine as they remain excluded from U.S.-Russia talks on ending the war, the Financial Times reported on Feb. 13, citing senior European officials.
