**Serbia’s Railway Station Tragedy: Prosecutors Take Over**
The Higher Public Prosecution in Novi Sad has confirmed that it has sent all its files on the railway station tragedy to organized crime prosecutors.
This move was made possible by the Serbian Supreme Public Prosecution transferring the case to the Organized Crime Public Prosecution. This allows prosecutors to investigate top-level elected officials.
A press release from Thursday stated that the prosecutor in charge of the case was transferred from the anti-corruption section to the Public Prosecution for Organized Crime to continue working on the case.
The first hearing in the case must be public, according to the press release.
The Organized Crime Prosecution started investigating the case on December 12, 2024. They formed a team of financial forensic experts who have been looking into the documentation on the reconstruction of the railway station.
Prosecutors in Novi Sad launched a corruption investigation on February 3, 2024. A total of 13 people were indicted, including former Infrastructure and Traffic Minister Goran Vesic and a former senior Serbian Railway Infrastructure company official. However, this indictment has not been confirmed yet.
