ISIS has claimed responsibility for a deadly attack at a popular concert venue complex near Moscow on Friday. The assailants stormed the venue with guns and incendiary devices, resulting in the deaths of at least 60 people and injuries to 145 others.
The terror group announced their involvement in a brief statement released on the ISIS-affiliated news agency Amaq on the messaging app Telegram. However, they did not provide any evidence to support their claim.
Video footage from the Crocus City Hall shows the extensive complex, which houses a music hall and a shopping center, engulfed in flames with thick smoke rising into the air. According to state-run news agency RIA Novosti, the armed individuals opened fire with automatic weapons and also threw a grenade or incendiary bomb, which sparked the fire. They then reportedly fled the scene in a white Renault car.
The attack has been tagged as an act of terrorism by authorities, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. The incident has caused shock and grief among the people of Moscow and the international community, as they mourn the loss of innocent lives and condemn the senseless violence perpetrated by ISIS.
