EU Will Continue Supporting Ukraine Despite Moscow’s Nuclear Threats, Says Representative

EU Peter Stano has condemned Russian ruler Vladimir Putin’s recent threats to use nuclear weapons against -nuclear states, calling it clear indication of his reckless and irresponsible behavior. According to Stano, Putin’s announcement of updates to ‘s nuclear doctrine on 25 September is a cause for concern.

The updated doctrine states that Russia may use nuclear weapons two specific scenarios: first, if a non-nuclear state attacks Russia with the support or involvement of a nuclear state, and second, if Russia receives reliable information about a massive launch of air and space weapons against its territory. These weapons include strategic and tactical aviation, cruise missiles, drones, and hypersonic missiles.

Stano emphasized that the EU’s position on supporting in its fight against Russian aggression remains unchanged, despite the updated doctrine. He also expressed concern over Putin’s repeated reliance on nuclear weapons and his behavior during the -level week of the UN .

The EU is working to convey its stance to and draw attention to the irresponsible behavior of a permanent member of the UN Security , whose main responsibility is to maintain global peace. Stano concluded by strongly condemning Putin’s threats and reaffirming the EU’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the world.
