Meta AI’s Imagine feature, which utilizes generative AI to transform text prompts into images, is now expanding to Facebook and Instagram, as announced by the company at Meta Connect 2024 on Wednesday. This update will allow users to generate AI photos directly in their feed, Stories, and even for their Facebook profile pictures using prompts. This new capability can help users and creators draw more attention to their posts and shares by providing them with fanciful and eye-catching images to complement their text. Once shared, friends and followers can view and react to these images, or even replicate them, according to Meta.
Previously, Facebook users would upload photos of characters, animals, or other images as their profile picture to protect their privacy. With this update, they will no longer need to search for such photos as they can simply generate one using the AI. The AI can also suggest captions for Stories on Facebook and Instagram as part of this update. Additionally, the image generation feature will also be available on Messenger, allowing users to create personalized chat themes by tapping on “Themes” in the chat. Previously, users could only change the background and text bubble colors, but with Meta AI, they will have access to a wider range of image options.
Meta also announced that it is testing new AI-generated content in Facebook and Instagram feeds, where it will display AI images based on users’ interests and current trends. This is intended to encourage users to try out Meta AI by tapping on suggested prompts to reimagine their photos or swiping to generate real-time content using Meta Imagine AI.
During the event, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg highlighted that Meta AI stands out not only for its state-of-the-art AI models but also for providing free and easy access to these models across different products and apps. He also mentioned that Meta AI is on track to become the most widely used AI assistant in the world by the end of this year, with almost 500 million monthly active users.
