Vigil Held in Exeter to Support Ukraine
On Saturday, hundreds of people came together in Exeter for a vigil. The event was held ahead of the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The vigil started at 13:00 GMT in Bedford Square. From there, people moved on to St Stephen’s Church. At the church, attendees wrote messages of support to send to Ukrainian soldiers.
The Devon Ukrainian Association organized the event. They help refugees who have settled in the county. Olha Retevaia, a Ukrainian woman, spoke at the vigil. She said it’s hard because many Ukrainians are fighting against Russian aggression. She thinks every family has someone who is fighting on the Ukrainian side.
Olya Petrakova from the Devon Ukrainian Association also spoke. She said the spirit of the vigil is about resilience and standing up to the enemy. It’s about wanting to reclaim Ukraine and Crimea, which were taken by Russia.
Monday marks three years since Russia invaded Ukraine.
