**Police in Riot Gear Block Protesters from City Assembly**
Police in Novi Sad wore riot gear and stood in front of the city assembly building. They refused entry to several opposition councilors who wanted to attend a session.
The goal of the session was to elect a new mayor. The previous mayor, Milan Djuric, resigned after 15 people died at the local railway station.
**Clashes Between Police and Protesters**
A crowd of protesters tried to get into the building but were pushed away by police using shields. Some people threw eggs at the police cordon.
One person wearing a Gendarmerie uniform was seen on TV trying to stop assembly members from entering. A lawyer, Branislav Antic, said the police refused him entry into the building.
**Police with Tear Gas**
At least one policeman in riot gear had a tear gas gun. Some people on social media claimed that police officers were brought in from outside the city.
Inside the assembly building, everything was calm. Only councilors from the ruling coalition attended the session.
