Russian Film Critic Detained in Moscow

Ekaterina Barabash, Russian film critic, has been detained in Moscow. Her son, Yuri Barabash, reported the news Facebook on February 25.

Barabash is known her work with Republic, a Russian publication that was banned in March after being added to the agent media register. She had also publicly supported Ukraine and condemned Russia’ invasion of the country.

The reasons for Barabash’s detention are unclear, but it is believed to be related to her professional activities. Her son has been living and working in Ukraine for many years.

Barabash was previously fired from Interfax in 2016 for criticizing Russian authorities. The detention comes amid a crackdown on dissent by the Russian government since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Ukraine’s National reported that four are among those injured, according to their updates.

The situation in Ukraine remains tense, with thousands of Russian citizens arrested and many jailed in ‘s crackdown on dissent.
