Serbia’s Unemployment Rate Remains High

According the Republic Statistics (RZS), Serbia’s unemployment rate has remained steady at 8.6 percent as of Q4 2024.

This means that out of total labor force of nearly 5 million people, about 273,100 individuals are currently unemployed. contrast, around ,894,900 people are employed, which is 51.4 percent of the total labor force.

The number of people outside the labor force has decreased by 65,300 compared to the same quarter last year. The employment rate increased by 1.1 percentage points (p.p.), while the unemployment rate and outside-the-labor-force rate also saw decreases of 0.5 p.p. and 1.0 p.p., respectively.

Compared to 2024, there was a decrease in the number of employed persons by 28,600, and increase in the number of unemployed people (by ,000) and those outside the labor force (by 6,300).

The total rate of informal employment is estimated at 11.9 percent. This includes a higher rate of informal employment in the (48.5%) compared to -agricultural sectors (6.8%).
