**Ukrainians Raise $649,000 in Hours After White House Clash**
A fundraising campaign called “for nukes” has raised over 27 million hryvnia ($649,000) since its launch after a heated meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The joke reference to nuclear weapons is a nod to Zelensky’s previous statements that Ukraine should be given nuclear arms if it’s not accepted into NATO. The fundraiser was started by Oleg Gorokhovskyi, a Ukrainian businessman and co-owner of Monobank, the country’s largest online bank.
**Fundraiser Raises Millions in First 16 Hours**
The campaign was launched at 1 am Kyiv time on February 28, just hours after Trump and Zelensky’s meeting. In the first 30 minutes, Hr 2 million (nearly $50,000) were raised. By the end of the day, the total had reached Hr 22 million.
**Donations Come from Around the World**
The fundraiser has attracted over 70,000 participants from 61 countries. The US and Poland are among the top donors, with Americans and Poles showing their support for Ukraine after Zelensky’s exchange with Trump.
**European Leaders Reaffirm Support for Ukraine**
Following the White House clash, European leaders reaffirmed their support for Ukraine and Zelensky. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas emphasized the EU’s commitment to assisting Ukraine in its resistance against the aggressor.
