Volunteers Embark on 13,000 Mile Aid Trip to Ukraine
A group of volunteers from Thriplow in Cambridgeshire has started a long journey to deliver aid to people in Ukraine. The trip involves driving for four days as part of a convoy of 14 vehicles.
The “big, ugly, green” truck named Shrek will carry generators, nappies, and medical supplies. Other vehicles in the Convoy4Ukraine convoy will have wheelchairs, crutches, and clothing on board.
One of the volunteers, Paul Earnshaw, said it’s crucial to help the people affected by the war, even if they can’t solve the politics. He added that his village has a long association with Ukraine, having sent an ambulance in February 2022. This trip is a continuation of their support.
Fergus Ramsay, who will make the trip for a second time, observed that there was a lack of younger people in some areas of Ukraine last time around. However, young mothers were helping out.
The volunteers plan to return on Friday and will use some of the journey time to prepare for this year’s Daffodil Weekend event in their village. The event is set to take place on 22 and 23 March.
