Gogi Tsereeteli, a leader of the opposition party “United National Movement”, spoke about Giorgi Bachiashvili’s case. Bachiashvili was one of Bidzina Ivanishvili‘s closest partners and managed his finances.
Tsereeteli said that Bachiashvili knows a lot and may reveal things that will not be liked by the “Georgian Dream” party or its leader, Bidzina Ivanishvili. He also said that the government‘s decision to arrest Bachiashvili was already made, but he outsmarted them.
Tsereeteli believes that corruption is a big problem in Georgia and there are many weak points in the country. People who work for the state have strong internal protests against the current government.
The opposition politician also spoke about the upcoming local government elections. He said that every party should participate, but under the current conditions, it would be like playing a lost game. The government has too much power and uses harsh methods to win.
Tsereeteli suggested that maybe two elections could be held together: one for the government-controlled parties and another for the opposition. This way, the process would develop constructively in the country. However, he doubts this will happen under the current government.
