Norway Increases Aid to Ukraine by $4.6 Billion
The leaders of Norway‘s parliament agreed on March 6 to increase aid for Ukraine. They plan to give Ukraine a total of 85 billion Norwegian krone ($7.8 billion) in 2025.
“This is a big help,” said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. “We need to support Ukraine because it is fighting for peace and stability in Europe.”
Norway had originally planned to give $2.1 billion in military aid. Now they will give more than three times that amount.
The government did not say exactly how the extra money would be used. However, a Norwegian news outlet reported that it would go where Ukraine needs it most.
Norway has been one of Ukraine’s strongest supporters. In December 2024, Støre said Norway would help Ukraine’s navy with $242 million in funding. This was to stop Russian threats in the Black Sea.
Støre also criticized the US for halting military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine. He said this had weakened support for Ukraine.
