According to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, there have been no requests for a telephone conversation between and Olaf Scholz. This information was reported by the Russian news agency TASS. Peskov stated that there are currently no common topics for discussion due to the strained between and Russia over the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. However, he also mentioned that Putin is open to dialogue.

Reports from Zeit suggest that Scholz was considering a phone call with Putin before the meeting in Brazil in November. This would be the first direct contact between the two leaders since 2022. However, a spokesperson for the German clarified that while Scholz had expressed interest in speaking with Putin at an appropriate time, there are currently no plans for a conversation.

The last time Scholz and Putin spoke was at the end of 2021, before Russia’s of Ukraine. Plans for a call to Moscow were made in August 2023 after the death of Wagner Group founder Yevgeny Prigozhin, but the conversation was repeatedly postponed by the chancellor’s administration due to a lack of signals from the Kremlin.

Representatives from Western countries supporting Ukraine will gather in Ramstein on 12th. Both US Joe Biden and Ukrainian will be in attendance.
