Sweden Criticized for Response to Georgia Protests

The has responded to statement from the Swedish Foreign regarding ongoing protests in the country. Georgian MP Vladimer Bozhadze said ‘s actions are unfair and amount to interference in the country’s internal affairs.

Bozhadze pointed out that Sweden had previously funded media and civil society organizations in Georgia during the rule of former Mikheil Saakashvili. He also noted that some European countries, including Sweden, have been critical of the Georgian government’s handling of protests, but not of violent groups that have clashed with police.

The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement last week marking 100 days since the start of protests in Georgia. It called on the government to take immediate action to resolve the and respect human rights.

Bozhadze said the Georgian government is working actively to address the situation, but many European countries are acting unfairly towards the country. He linked this unfairness to the Russia- and the Georgian government’s efforts to maintain peace and stability in the country.
