On October 4, the Romanian border police discovered debris from a Russian drone in the Litcov canal area of Romania‘s Danube Delta region. The authorities immediately notified the Ministry of National Defense, which, along with the Romanian Intelligence Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, conducted a thorough search of the site. The collected fragments of the drone will undergo analysis following legal procedures.
The incident took place in a rural area and did not cause any damage to infrastructure, according to the police. However, this is not the first time that wreckage of Russian drones has been found on Romanian territory, as Romania is a member of NATO. Russia has previously targeted Ukrainian port infrastructure on the Danube River, which separates Ukraine and Romania. In fact, on September 9, the Romanian Defense Ministry reported finding Russian drone fragments near the village of Periprava, which is directly across the Danube River from the Ukrainian border.
Throughout September, Russia launched daily drone attacks on cities and towns across Ukraine. According to Ukraine’s Air Force, a total of 1,339 Shahed-type kamikaze drones were used in these attacks, with 1,107 being shot down and some others being jammed by electronic warfare and flying into Russian or Belarusian airspace. Around 45 drones remain unaccounted for, with no further details provided.
This trend has continued into the first days of October, with 32 drones targeting Ukraine on October 1, 105 on October 2, and 19 on October 3. Reports of drones and air raid sirens have already been registered across Ukraine on October 4.
