Tamara Chergoleishvili, a leader of the “Federation” party, spoke about plans to prepare for new elections. She said that this was an idea started by Salome Zurabishvili.
Zurabishvili is planning a protest rally on March 31. The leaders discussed this and other issues related to preparing for new elections. These included the situation with political prisoners and what was needed to hold fair elections in the future.
Chergoleishvili said that they would focus on holding new parliamentary elections, not local government elections. She called it “madness” to talk about local elections when there is still a crisis to be resolved.
The protesters are demanding change, and Chergoleishvili believes that their main goal should be to achieve new parliamentary elections. Discussing local elections could distract from this goal and make the protest mood worse.
