**University Students‘ Rights Not Respected**
The Georgian Young Lawyers‘ Association (GYLA) has made a statement about the actions of the Theater University administration. They say that the university is not respecting students’ rights, but rather doing the opposite.
**Students Protest at University**
On March 10, 2025, students who were participating in a protest at the university had their student status revoked. The university said this was because they had broken some rules. But the decision to take away the students’ status was not clear or justified.
**Police Fined Students**
The day before, on March 9, police fined nine students 5,000 GEL each for participating in a peaceful protest at the university. This happened when the students were asked to leave the building because of “disinfection work”. The students had asked for a separate space to continue their protest, but this was not provided.
**GYLA Concerned**
The GYLA has repeatedly said that higher educational institutions should respect and protect students’ freedom of expression. But in this case, they say that the Theater University administration is not doing this. Instead, it is taking away students’ rights.
