This is an ongoing story and is being continuously updated. On the morning of October 7, explosions and a nationwide air raid alert were reported in Ukraine’s capital, according to Mayor . Kyiv Independent reporters heard the explosions at around 8:30 a.m. local time, while municipal authorities reported active air defenses in the city at the same time.

The explosions occurred shortly after launched aircraft, firing ballistic missiles. The detected the missiles heading towards Kyiv and Starokostiantyniv in Oblast, where a major airbase is located. However, all missiles targeting Kyiv were successfully intercepted, as reported by the Kyiv city administration.

Debris from the missiles was found in three districts of the city – Solomianskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Holosiivskyi. A fire broke out in the Solomianskyi district, but was later extinguished. The mayor stated that missile fragments were found near an apartment building, in a house’s yard, and near a supermarket. Fortunately, no casualties were reported at the time of publication.

Authorities also reported damage to a multi-story building in the Solomianskyi district and a car in the Holosiivskyi district. It is worth noting that Kyiv has been a frequent target of Russian missile and attacks during the ongoing . While some of these attacks have resulted in civilian casualties and significant damage, the city is equipped with powerful air defenses, including the -made Patriot system, which helps to protect the sky over Kyiv.
