Serbia’s Health Minister Orders Hospitals to Be Ready for Protest Day
The health minister in Serbia, Zlatibor Loncar, has told hospital and clinic bosses to prepare their facilities to work at full capacity on March 15. This is the day when a big protest is planned in the capital city of Belgrade.
Loncar sent a memo (official letter) to several major hospitals and clinics, telling them that they need to have enough medicines, medical supplies, and equipment for the day. He also asked hospital bosses to be fully engaged on March 15.
All employees at one big hospital, University Hospital Medical Center Bezanijska Kosa, will be required to come to work on the protest day. This is to stop them from joining the student protest that is planned.
The director of this hospital, Marija Zdravkovic, has ties with Serbia’s ruling party. She was a candidate for mayor of Belgrade in 2022 and topped an election ticket in 2020.
