**Tougher Drug Laws Proposed in Georgia**
The government of Georgia wants to change its drug laws. This is because many people, especially families, are affected by drugs. The chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights, Rati Ionatamishvili, said that this was done intentionally.
Ionatamishvili thinks that the state should take a firm stance against drugs. He said that even big countries have trouble stopping drug-related crimes. New technologies make it hard to detect and stop organized groups that sell drugs. And new types of drugs are also making things worse.
A new law package, called “Georgian Dream“, has been approved in the first stage by a parliamentary committee. This law proposes stricter punishments for people who break drug laws, including those who use cannabis and marijuana. The proposed changes affect eight different laws, including the Criminal Code and the Law on Organized Crime.
The goal is to make it easier to stop people from selling and using drugs. New rules will be added to the criminal code as part of this effort.
