Mikheil Saakashvili, former president of Georgia, Convicted for Illegal Border Crossing

Former was found guilty of illegally crossing the state border. A court , Georgia sentenced him to four years and six months in prison March 17.

This is not the first time Saakashvili has been found guilty by a Georgian court. On Monday, another judge had already convicted him of misusing $ million from the state . This judge, Badri Kochmalazashvili, sentenced him to nine years in prison.

Saakashvili’s legal troubles are getting worse. Judge Mikheil Jinjolia said that Saakashvili will have to serve a total of 12 years and six months in prison. Saakashvili has been in custody since 2021.

The court case involved four other people, who were charged with helping Saakashvili cross the border. They were released on bail last year.

Saakashvili was from 2004 to 2013. He later became a Ukrainian citizen and denies all charges against him, saying they are politically motivated.
