Nanuka Zhorzholiani Speaks Out After Arrest
Nanuka Zhorzholiani, the founder of the Nanuka Foundation, has spoken out against her arrest. She was arrested along with others from the Georgian Dream party. In an interview, she said that it’s not surprising to be arrested by a government like hers.
According to Zhorzholiani, money was transferred directly to detainees and their families. She plans to continue filling prison cards every month.
She questioned why it took so long for her to be arrested if the Prosecutor‘s Office had evidence against her. The article used as grounds for arrest came from a Russian man, which she called “shameless”.
Zhorzholiani pointed out that the court hasn’t ruled on whether the people she helped were criminals or not. She argued that helping their families shouldn’t be a problem.
She also highlighted that the distribution of balaclavas and gas masks wasn’t prohibited by law at the time. Zhorzholiani questioned why she wasn’t detained immediately for summoning “front-line people” to Rustaveli.
Despite her arrest, Zhorzholiani remains committed to helping prisoners. She said that no matter what it costs her, the prison cards will be filled every month.
