Serbian Prime Minister Resigns, Seeks Russia‘s Help to Investigate Protest
Milos Vucevic, Serbia’s former prime minister, has written a letter to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. In the letter, Vucevic asks for Russia’s help in investigating the events of a recent protest in Belgrade.
Vucevic resigned as prime minister recently, and his resignation was officially accepted by the Serbian Parliament. He is now seeking assistance from Russia, which is currently at war with Ukraine.
The investigation is focused on finding out if a “sound cannon” or “Vortex” device was used during the March 15 protest in Belgrade. A group of opposition protesters has been spreading claims that the device was used, and Vucevic wants to determine the truth.
In his letter, Vucevic says he believes Russia’s experts would be helpful in this investigation. He also mentions that Serbia and Russia have a strong friendship and cooperation between their countries.
The situation is unusual because Russia is currently involved in a war with Ukraine and has been criticized for suppressing human rights and freedom of assembly. Despite this, Vucevic wants to involve Russian agencies in the investigation.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic recently said that he would step down as president if it was proven that a sound cannon was used during the protest.
