Telegram is restricted for Verkhovna Rada officials in Ukraine

Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, a Ukrainian MP, said in a post on Facebook on October 7 that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has banned its officials from using the Telegram app on their work devices.
Telegram will not be allowed to be installed on the devices of lawmakers and parliament officials. They will also have to use two factor authentication and other security measures if they want to use it for any other purpose.
The of Ukraine recommended the measure amid concerns that the messaging app founded by Russian businessman Pavel Durov represents a threat to national security.
“I find that such security measures make sense. Yurchyshyn stated that there are already examples of third parties getting data on state employees via Telegram.
The decision was made after Ruslan Stefanchuk, the Speaker of Parliament, warned about fake messages being sent from his Telegram accounts that he hadn’t used in more than three years.
Telegram will continue to be available for use by lawmakers on their own devices.
Telegram’s popularity in Ukraine skyrocketed following the invasion of 2022. This was mainly due to its anonymous channels, which mass-spread content while maintaining the anonymity of the publisher.

Durov, the co-founder of Telegram and CEO, was briefly detained by French authorities and later charged for “complicity with managing an online platform that allows illicit transactions to be made by an organized group”.
