The second reading of the draft law on transparency of foreign influences was adopted by the Parliament. During the vote held in the plenary, 83 deputies voted for the project and 23 members of parliament voted against it.
The second reading took place over two days. Yesterday and today, the process was accompanied by arguments and physical confrontations between the majority and the opposition MPs.
The first reading of the draft law on “Transparency of Foreign Influence” was passed by the Parliament on April 17, with 83 votes.
The draft law allows for the registration of media outlets and non-commercial legal entities as organizations that represent the interests of foreign powers, if a certain percentage of their income, in particular more than 20%, is derived from abroad.
According to the draft law, anyone who is considered an “organization carrying foreign power’s interests” must be registered under the same name and in a mandatory way in the public registry. The income received will need to be reported at the time of registration.
