**US Jury Convicts Two Men in Plot to Kill Iranian- Journalist**

A US federal jury has found two men, Polad Omarov and Rafat Amirov, guilty of trying to assassinate Iranian-American journalist Masih Alinejad in New York. The plot was backed by the Iranian government.

The court heard that Omarov, 40, and Amirov, 46, were high-ranking members of an organized crime group from Eastern . They were instructed by ‘s Corps (IRGC) to kill Alinejad, who had been critical of the Iranian regime.

**Attempted Murder Plot Foiled**

In July 2022, arrested Khalid Mehdiyev, a man who was helping Omarov and Amirov with their plot. When they searched his car, they found an AK-47- rifle, ammunition, and cash. Alinejad’s home had been under surveillance.

After Mehdiyev’s arrest, Omarov threatened to kill him and his if he didn’ cooperate. The court documents showed that the two men had coordinated their efforts with Iranian officials and other criminals.

**Sentence Scheduled**

Omarov and Amirov are scheduled to be sentenced on September 17. Alinejad was “relieved” by the verdict, but said she still wants the masterminds of the plot, who remain in power in Iran.
