Parliamentary Commission: Tool for Persecution?

Tazo Datunashvili, a member of , spoke out against the appearance of former Foreign Grigol Vashadze at the parliamentary temporary investigative commission.

Datunashvili argued that attending the commission is an acknowledgment of the parliament’ legitimacy. He found it shameful that Vashadze was allowed to speak and that his words were not questioned.

“The content of what he said was politically very lowly,” Datunashvili said. “Attending this commission means recognizing the parliament. What I saw there was an example of Soviet- sycophancy.”

According to Datunashvili, the true purpose of the parliamentary commission is not to examine the activities of the ‘s government but to persecute political opponents.

“This has nothing to do with any kind of analysis or ,” he said. “It is about persecuting current political opponents. They are pursuing active political opponents and do not even have the ability to disguise the process.”
