US Lawmaker Welcomes German Sanctions on Georgian Regime
A senior US politician has welcomed Germany’s decision to impose new sanctions on people linked to the crackdown in Georgia.
Congressman Joe Wilson, co-chair of the US Helsinki Commission, said he was “grateful” for the move. He described the current regime as “illegitimate”.
The German government imposed entry bans on individuals responsible for the violence in Georgia. This action has been seen as a response to the disputed presidential election last year.
Congressman Wilson is hopeful that more sanctions will follow. He believes that free and fair elections are the only way forward for Georgia.
