Oxford has held a vigil in solidarity with those living in war zones and other conflict areas around the .
The service was held Bonn Square, Sunday night.
It happened just before the anniversary of the 7th Hamas attacks in which gunmen stormed into Israel and killed about 1,200 people, while taking 251 hostages.
, faith leaders and community leaders gathered for the event.
The Oxfordshire Civic, Community and Faith Leaders’ Group organised the event, which was led by the Bishop, the Reverend Steven Croft, and imam Monawar Hussain.
Representatives of all faiths were invited by the organizers to pray and reflect about conflicts around the globe, with an emphasis on those who live in Gaza and Israel.
The attack by Hamas on Israel marked the beginning of an entire year of war in the .
Israel responded by launching a military operation in Gaza, which has resulted in at least 41,000 deaths, according to Hamas’ health .
The vigil was held to promote unity and to fight “all forms” of racism, hatred and division.
Mr Hussain thought it was “lovely”, that so many people attended the event.
“It gives me a chance to stand with you for peace, talk to you, and create understanding,” he added.
“And symbolism, it’s important for people to understand how we come together, different religions, no religion – but we are together.”
