**Kosovo Looks to Strengthen Ties with US by Dropping Tariffs**
In a move aimed at boosting economic ties between the two countries, Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani has asked her government to remove import tariffs on all American products. This decision is seen as a way for Kosovo to strengthen its relationship with the United States, its closest ally.
According to President Osmani, dropping tariffs on US goods will help deepen economic relations between the two nations. She also expressed confidence that this move will create new job opportunities and boost long-term economic growth in Kosovo. By suspending tariffs, President Osmani hopes to send a positive signal to American businesses, encouraging them to invest in Kosovo.
The decision comes after US President Donald Trump introduced tariffs on goods from several countries in the Western Balkans, including Kosovo. The lowest tariff of 10% was imposed on goods exported from Albania, Montenegro, and Kosovo to the US. This move by the US had a negative impact on these countries’ economies, as their exports became more expensive for American consumers.
Other countries in the region have not been so fortunate. North Macedonia will face a higher tariff of 33% on its goods, while Bosnia and Herzegovina will be subject to an even steeper tariff of 35%. Serbia will see tariffs of 37% on its goods, significantly impacting their exports to the US.
By suspending tariffs on US goods, Kosovo is trying to differentiate itself from other countries in the region. This move could potentially attract more American investment and increase trade between the two nations. However, it remains to be seen how successful this strategy will be in achieving President Osmani’s goals.
